Newspaper deliveries delayed across Punjab as police conduct vehicles checks
Babushahi Bureau
Chandigarh, November 2, 2025: The distribution of newspapers was significantly delayed across various parts of Punjab on Sunday after police conducted checks on vehicles carrying newspaper bundles from printing centers to different cities.
According to reports, the Punjab Police teams acted on specific intelligence inputs suggesting possible drug and weapon smuggling through commercial and delivery vehicles.
As part of the operation, police stopped and searched several newspaper-carrying vehicles across the state. Dog squads were deployed at multiple locations, and in some cases, vehicles were taken to police stations for detailed inspection.
A Punjab Police Spokesperson said the checking was carried out under the supervision of Gazetted Officers to ensure a streamlined and orderly process without causing inconvenience to the public.
The Spokesperson noted that Punjab, being a sensitive border state, often faces threats from Pakistan’s ISI, which uses drones and various transport routes to smuggle contraband, arms, and explosives. These security measures, the spokesperson added, are part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the internal security grid, particularly after Operation “Sindoor.”
While acknowledging reports of delays in newspaper delivery due to the checks, the Punjab Police assured that greater diligence and care would be exercised to minimize inconvenience to the public during future operations.
