11th Sardar Bhagwant Singh Memorial Basketball Trophy tips off in Chandigarh with record participation

Chandigarh, November 3, 2025:The 11th Sardar Bhagwant Singh Memorial Basketball Trophy, the tricity’s largest inter-school basketball tournament, commenced today with an inaugural ceremony at the Sports Complex, Sector 42, Chandigarh.
The prestigious event, organized by Vivek High School, Mohali, will see 73 teams from 21 schools competing across eight age categories from November 3 to 13, 2025.
The chief guest at the opening ceremony was Tejinderjit Singh Virk, Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Internal Security, Punjab Police, and former Indian basketball player who represented the country at the Asian Basketball Championship (South Korea) and Asian Basketball Cup (Malaysia).
Other dignitaries present included Mrs. Jaswinder Gandhok, Principal, Vivek High School, Mohali; Vishal Sharma, Head of Sports Department; and Jayata Chopra, Cultural Coordinator.
Vikramjeet Singh Mamik, Administrator, Vivek High School, shared key details of the competition, noting that the event features U-10, U-12, U-14, and U-17 categories for both boys and girls. “This nine-day tournament carries a total prize purse of Rs 2.7 lakh across categories, making it one of the most rewarding school-level basketball events in the region,” he said.
Principal Mrs. Jaswinder Gandhok highlighted that this edition marks a milestone for introducing the U-10 category for the first time in any tricity basketball tournament — a move aimed at nurturing talent from an early age.
Vishal Sharma, HOD (Sports), explained that matches in the U-10 category will follow a league format, while the U-12, U-14, and U-17 categories will adopt a knock-out format. The quarterfinals will be played on November 10, followed by semifinals on November 11 and 12, and the grand finale on November 13.
Among the participating institutions are Vivek High School (Sectors 38 and 70), Strawberry Fields High School, Saupin’s (Sectors 32 and 70), St. Joseph’s (Sector 44), Learning Paths School, Manav Rachna, Doon International, Sacred Heart, Manav Mangal, DPS (Sectors 40 and Mohali), YPS, GNPS (Sector 36), Amity International, St. Kabir (Sector 26), Ryan International, St. John’s (Sector 26), KV AFS High Ground, and The Tribune School.
