                         Over Rs 57 crore seized in Tarn Taran By-election after Model Code of Conduct enforcement

Chandigarh, November 4, 2025:Following the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct for the Tarn Taran Assembly bye-election, the Punjab Police, acting under the directions of the Election Commission of India, has made seizures worth over ₹57.47 crore to curb electoral malpractices.
According to official data, between October 7 (when the Model Code came into effect) and November 3, authorities confiscated 51,429.50 litres of liquor valued at ₹32.89 lakh, narcotic substances worth ₹56.67 crore (21,811.10 grams), cash amounting to ₹9.73 lakh, and other materials worth ₹37.85 lakh.
Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sibin C stated that police officials have been directed to maintain 24x7 surveillance through CCTV cameras at all checkpoints across the constituency to prevent illegal smuggling and distribution of inducements. He emphasized that strict action will be taken against those attempting to influence voters with cash or freebies.
Providing further details, the CEO informed that the Tarn Taran constituency has a total of 1,92,838 registered voters, including 1,00,933 men, 91,897 women, and 8 third-gender voters. The constituency also includes 1,357 service voters, 1,657 senior citizens above 85 years, 306 NRI voters, and 1,488 voters with disabilities. Additionally, there are 3,333 young voters aged between 18 and 19 years.
A total of 222 polling stations have been established at 114 locations, comprising 60 urban and 162 rural stations, to ensure smooth and transparent polling during the upcoming bye-election.
