Batala (Punjab), November 8, 2025: Setting a new benchmark in citizen service, Batala Police has become the first police district in Punjab to trace and return the highest number of missing mobile phones — over 1,100 devices worth approximately ₹2.20 crore — through a tech-driven public initiative.
Launched under the guidance of DGP Gaurav Yadav, IPS, and Special DGP Cyber Crime, the Cyber Crime Police Station, Batala, initiated the campaign “Tuhada Gumm Hoia Mobile Hun Wapis Tuhade Hath” (“Your Lost Mobile is Now Back in Your Hands”) about a year ago. The drive utilized the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to successfully reunite people with their lost phones.
In recognition of this remarkable achievement, the Department of Telecommunications, Government of India, honoured Batala Police at the Annual Security Conference for North Zone LSAs and LEAs held on November 6, 2025, in Solan, Himachal Pradesh. The award was presented by Smt. Sunita Chandra, Director General, DoT, for outstanding performance in public service and technological integration in policing.
SSP Batala, Suhail Mir, IPS, dedicated the award to his team’s relentless efforts and the community’s support, saying the achievement demonstrates the police’s commitment to using technology for citizen welfare and strengthening public trust.
He urged citizens to continue reporting lost phones at their nearest Saanjh Centre or directly contact the Cyber Crime Police Station, Batala, to ensure quick recovery under the ongoing initiative.
