Hoshiarpur (Punjab), November 16, 2025: The Hoshiarpur Cyber Cell has arrested Rajinder Parmar, the office in-charge of former Punjab minister Sunder Sham Arora, for allegedly operating fake Facebook accounts to post objectionable remarks and false allegations against MLA Brahm Shankar Jimpa and his family.
The action was taken on the basis of a complaint filed by MLA Jimpa’s nephew, Dheeraj Sharma, who reported that unknown individuals were using fake Facebook IDs to share defamatory posts and comments targeting his family.
Cyber Cell officials obtained technical data from Facebook regarding the suspicious accounts. Based on the digital clues and subsequent investigation, the police traced the activity back to Rajinder Parmar and arrested him.
Police also recovered the mobile phone allegedly used to operate the fake accounts.
According to Dheeraj Sharma, he had filed two separate complaints—one last year and another recently—against the following accounts:
- ‘Raja Thakur’: This ID frequently showed changing locations, sometimes appearing as Brampton (Ontario, Canada) and at other times as Hoshiarpur.
- ‘Rab Kolon Dar Sajjana’: This account listed its location as Kapurthala.
Sharma further stated that during interrogation, the arrested accused hinted at the involvement of “a big name” who had allegedly instructed him to carry out these online activities.
Police investigations are ongoing.
