New Delhi, November 20, 2025 : Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Chouhan has announced a major expansion of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), bringing long-awaited relief to farmers across the country.
In a message posted on social media, the Minister shared that two critical types of crop losses—previously not covered under the scheme—have now been officially included. These are:
-
Crop damage caused by wild animals, and
-
Losses due to floods or waterlogging resulting from excessive rainfall
Chouhan said farmers had been requesting the inclusion of these categories for a long time, given the growing risks from wildlife intrusion and erratic weather patterns. He noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved their addition to ensure better protection and financial security for cultivators.
“With this decision, whether wild animals destroy your crops or your fields suffer due to flooding or waterlogging, such losses will now be fully covered,” the Minister said, expressing gratitude to the Prime Minister for what he termed a “remarkable step” for farmer welfare.
He also appealed to farmers to take advantage of the expanded coverage under PM Fasal Bima Yojana and get their crops insured at the earliest.
