Big News: Farmers postpone ‘Rail Roko’ stir in Punjab after Govt assurances

Chandigarh, December 20, 2025: Farmers in Punjab have changed their decision regarding the proposed Rail Roko agitation. The protest, which was scheduled for December 20, has been postponed following assurances from the state government.
Providing details, farmer leader Sarwan Singh Bhander said that a meeting was held with the government on Thursday evening, during which farmers were assured that the Electricity Amendment Bill would not be implemented in Punjab.
The government also gave a positive assurance regarding the installation of smart electricity meters, stating that such meters would not be installed in the state.
Farmer leaders clarified that the decision to postpone the agitation has been taken in view of the government’s assurances. However, they emphasized that the agitation has not been withdrawn, only deferred.
Meanwhile, another meeting between farmer representatives and the government is scheduled for December 22 to discuss the pending demands of the farmers.
