Banga/Chandigarh, January 18, 2026: Dr. Sukhwinder Singh Sukhi, the MLA from Banga, has announced his resignation from the Cabinet Minister rank and the post of Chairman of CONWARE (Punjab State Container and Warehousing Corporation) granted by the Punjab Government. He made this announcement through a video message, citing the violation of religious code (Maryada) and hurt sentiments of the 'Sangat' (devotees) as the primary reasons for his decision.
In the video, Dr. Sukhi mentioned that he has been visiting the shrine of 'Raja Sahib' for several days. He stated that the recent conclusion (Bhog) of Sri Akhand Path Sahib was not performed according to the established religious traditions, which has deeply hurt the sentiments of Raja Sahib's followers. Dr. Sukhi emphasized that for him, this place is a house of God and not a place for politics. Taking a dig at other politicians, he said that one should not play politics at such sacred places.
Dr. Sukhi's Statement: "I belong to Raja Sahib and his devotees. I hereby announce that I am resigning from the Cabinet Minister rank and status, as well as the post of Chairman, given to me by the Punjab Government."
It is worth noting that Dr. Sukhi had recently joined the Aam Aadmi Party after leaving the Shiromani Akali Dal, following which he was rewarded with this rank.
