Majitha (Amritsar), January 18, 2026: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Sunday announced that Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Talbir Singh Gill will be the party’s candidate from Majitha for the 2027 Assembly elections, emphasizing that the people of Majitha will no longer tolerate intimidation, sacrilege, or the politics of fear.
Speaking at a public function where he laid the foundation stone for 23 rural link roads worth ₹11.32 crore, CM Mann said the nomination of Talbir Singh Gill represents a new era of development, dignity, and respect for Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
“The people of Majitha have charted a new path by rejecting the politics of intimidation pursued by the Majithia and Badal families,” he said, warning that bringing the Akali Dal back to power would drag Punjab into a dark era marked by beadbi (sacrilege), firing on innocent protestors, and atrocities against common people.
CM Mann also criticized Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami for aligning himself with Sukhbir Singh Badal instead of serving Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, saying, “What good can be expected from someone who takes pride in serving those who have harmed Punjab at every step?”
Highlighting Majitha’s troubled past, the Chief Minister recalled how the area once lived under constant fear, with a self-proclaimed “jarnail” using false cases to intimidate ordinary citizens during both Congress and Akali rule.
“That era of terror has ended. Today, the will of the people prevails,” he said. He further cited Majitha’s historical betrayal, noting that certain local leaders had hosted General Dyer on the day of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, a fact that Punjab will never forget.
CM Mann reiterated the government’s commitment to tracing the 328 missing saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji through a Special Investigation Team (SIT) while affirming that his administration respects the autonomy of religious institutions.
The Chief Minister’s announcement positions Talbir Singh Gill as the face of AAP’s vision of accountable governance in Majitha, where development, public participation, and the protection of faith will take precedence over political intimidation and dynastic influence.
