Bomb Threat to Punjab Secretariat in Chandigarh; Punjab and Haryana Secretariats Evacuated
Chandigarh, Janaury 29, 2026: The Punjab Secretariat in Chandigarh, the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana, received a bomb threat on Tuesday. The threat was sent via email, following which security agencies immediately swung into action. As a precautionary measure, not only the Punjab Secretariat but also the Haryana Secretariat was evacuated.
In view of a series of threats received by schools and government institutions over the past few days, the administration had already been on high alert. The targeting of the Secretariat has further heightened security concerns.
Employees moved to safe locations: Immediately after the threat was received, both Secretariat complexes, including the Civil Secretariat in Chandigarh, were evacuated. All employees were instructed to exit the buildings and move to the open parking areas. Within minutes, the entire Secretariat was cleared to ensure the safety of life and property in the event of any potential danger.
Intensive search by bomb squad, dog squad, and police: Fire brigade personnel, police forces, bomb disposal squads, and dog squads rushed to the spot. A thorough search operation was launched across the Secretariat complex. Every floor, room, and parking area is being meticulously checked.
