V-C SBSSU calls on Governor of Punjab, outlines infrastructure, academic expansion
Ferozepur, January 31, 2026: The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Suresh Sharma, along with the Registrar, Dr Gazal Preet Singh, called on His Excellency, Gulab Chand Kataria, Governor of Punjab and Chancellor of the University at Punjab Lok Bhavan, Chandigarh, on Friday.
During the meeting, detailed and meaningful discussions were held on the overall development of the University, key developmental initiatives, and the future growth roadmap of the institution. Special emphasis was laid on strengthening academic quality, infrastructure, innovation, and the University’s expanding role in regional and national development.
During the meeting, the University leadership apprised His Excellency of several critical infrastructure and development requirements essential for the holistic growth of the institution. These included the need for repair and carpeting of the Main Campus Double Road, repair and reconstruction of the damaged boundary wall, construction of a dedicated auditorium to support academic, cultural, and official functions, and the construction of a dedicated guest house to facilitate visits of dignitaries, academic experts, and officials. The need for repair and renovation of existing washrooms, construction of additional washroom facilities across the campus, and comprehensive whitewashing and maintenance of academic blocks, hostels, and residential quarters was also highlighted to ensure a safe, hygienic, and conducive learning and living environment.
The University also shared its vision for academic expansion and future readiness by proposing the introduction of new employment-oriented and professional programmes from the upcoming academic session. In order to align with emerging national and global trends and to enhance employability opportunities for students, the proposed programmes include cutting-edge and socially relevant disciplines such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Bioinformatics, Economics, Medical Laboratory Technology, Public Health, and Legal Studies through a dedicated University Institute of Legal Studies. These initiatives are aimed at strengthening academic excellence, interdisciplinary learning, and industry-relevant skill development.
All the above proposals were submitted for the kind consideration and guidance of His Excellency, the Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and Chancellor of the University.
