Chandigarh, February 2, 2026: A political row has erupted in Punjab following comments by Radha Soami Satsang Beas chief Baba Gurinder Singh Dhillon, who recently dismissed the allegations against Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has strongly reacted to the statement, questioning the appropriateness of religious figures commenting on matters under legal scrutiny.
Senior AAP leader Neil Garg, speaking to the media, said that Baba Gurinder Singh Dhillon commands millions of followers in India and abroad, and such public statements carry significant influence. Garg termed it unfortunate that a religious leader would offer what appeared to be a “clean chit” to an individual facing serious allegations.
He stated that saints and spiritual leaders should refrain from making comments on political or legal issues, particularly when cases are sub judice. “When a person with such a large following makes statements of this nature, it sends a wrong message to society,” Garg said.
The AAP leader further clarified that the allegations against Bikram Majithia are currently under investigation and that it is solely the responsibility of the judiciary to determine guilt or innocence. “It is the courts’ job to decide who is right and who is wrong. No religious leader should make remarks that could potentially influence the legal process,” he added.
Notably, Baba Gurinder Singh Dhillon had described the allegations against Majithia as false after meeting him at Nabha Jail, a statement that has since triggered sharp political reactions. With AAP’s strong response, the issue is expected to further intensify political debate in Punjab.
