SDE (Horticulture) placed under suspension, MC Commissioner takes strict action over gross negligence in garden maintenance

In a stern move to enforce accountability and ensure high standards of civic upkeep, the Commissioner Municipal Corporation Chandigarh Amit Kumar, IAS has taken strict disciplinary action against an officer of the Horticulture Department following serious lapses in maintenance.
During an inspection of Shivalik Garden, Manimajra conducted on February 4, the Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh observed grave shortcomings and deficiencies in the maintenance and overall upkeep of the garden. The condition of the public asset reflected gross negligence and lack of effective supervision, which was viewed seriously by the competent authority.
The lapses have been attributed to Rohit Garg, Assistant Engineer (AE), who is presently working as Sub Divisional Engineer (SDE – Horticulture) for the said area. Considering the seriousness of the matter, and in exercise of powers conferred under Rule 10(1) of the Central Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1965, Rohit Garg has been placed under suspension with immediate effect.
During the period of suspension, the headquarters of Rohit Garg shall remain at the office of the Executive Engineer, Horticulture Division No. 1, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, and he shall not leave the headquarters without prior permission of the competent authority. He will be entitled to subsistence allowance as admissible under the relevant rules and instructions. The suspension order shall remain in force until further orders.
In consequence of the suspension and to ensure uninterrupted horticulture operations and maintenance work in the area, the Municipal Corporation has made the following temporary arrangements, in addition to the officers’ existing duties:
Additional charge of SDE (Horticulture): Angrej Singh, SDE (Hort)
Additional charge of JE (Horticulture): Shubham, JE (Hort)
This arrangement shall remain effective until further orders or till revocation of the suspension, whichever is earlier.
The Commissioner, MC Chandigarh has reiterated that any negligence in the maintenance of public assets will not be tolerated, and strict action will be taken against officials found derelict in their duties. The Corporation remains committed to ensuring quality civic services and well-maintained public spaces for the citizens of Chandigarh.
