Chandigarh, February 9, 2026: In a major boost to infrastructure and connectivity, Punjab Education Minister and Sri Anandpur Sahib MLA Harjot Singh Bains on Sunday announced the approval of several key projects aimed at accelerating economic growth in the region.
In a video message, Bains congratulated the people of his constituency and said that five crucial bridge projects have been cleared by the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB). Calling it a “development push” for Sri Anandpur Sahib, he said the projects would significantly ease movement, reduce travel time and support local livelihoods.
The approved projects include the Brahmpur and Daroli bridges, which will be rebuilt to replace old structures constructed during the canal construction period and upgraded to meet present-day requirements.
The Ganguwal double bridge, described as a strategic project, is expected to provide major relief from chronic traffic congestion, particularly during large religious gatherings such as Hola Mohalla and Viah Purb at Guru Ka Lahore. The bridge will ensure smoother movement for devotees and residents alike.
Bains said the Attari village bridge will directly connect the village to the national highway, eliminating long detours and giving a boost to local trade and the rural economy. The Bhaowal bridge is also expected to generate employment and spur economic activity in the surrounding areas.
The Education Minister informed that the Sarsa Nangal bridge project has already been tendered and work is scheduled to begin around April 14.
Along with bridges, Bains also announced two major road projects. The Nangal–Kalma Mod road will be constructed at a cost of Rs 10 crore and designed to withstand heavy industrial traffic.
The Bhanglan–Kanpur Khuhi road project, with an estimated cost of Rs 12.5 crore, will improve bus connectivity and address waterlogging issues in Khera Kalmot through the construction of concrete side drains. Work on both road projects is expected to begin within the next two weeks.
“These projects are about transforming lives, not just building infrastructure,” Bains said, adding that they address long-pending public demands while opening up new avenues for employment and development. He reiterated that the Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann-led Punjab Government remains committed to sustainable and inclusive development across the state.
