Rs 5,983 crore project to add 3rd, 4th railway lines on Delhi-Ambala route: Ashwini Vaishnav

New Delhi, February 14, 2026: Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that third and fourth railway lines will be laid on the Delhi–Ambala route at an estimated cost of ₹5,983 crore. The project is expected to be completed within four years.
The minister stated that the expansion will significantly strengthen railway infrastructure across Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and northern India. Construction work on the project is set to commence soon.
According to official estimates, the project will enhance freight handling capacity by 24 million tonnes, facilitating smoother movement of Vande Bharat and other passenger trains. It is also projected to reduce logistics costs by approximately ₹952 crore.
Additionally, the initiative is expected to generate around 132 lakh human workdays, providing a substantial boost to employment during the construction phase.
