New Delhi, February 18, 2026: The Congress on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on the Modi government over the ongoing AI summit, alleging that Chinese robots were being showcased as Indian innovations and claiming the episode had damaged the country’s global image.
In a strongly worded post on social media, the opposition party said the government had made “a laughing stock of India globally” in the field of artificial intelligence. It alleged that robots manufactured in China were being displayed as domestic creations at the summit, and claimed that sections of Chinese media had mocked India over the controversy.
The Congress further accused Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw of promoting the robot at the Indian summit, calling the development “shameful” and alleging that it amounted to endorsing a false narrative about indigenous technological advancement.
“The Modi Government has caused irreparable damage to the image of the country — they have reduced AI to a joke — a field in which we could be world leaders given our data power,” the party said, describing the situation as “brazenly shameless.”
