Andhra Pradesh, February 23, 2026: The Andhra Pradesh police on Monday arrested IPS officer Sunil Nayak in Bihar in connection with the alleged custodial torture of K. Raghurama Krishna Raju, the current Deputy Speaker of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly. The case dates back to the previous YSRCP government’s tenure.
Raju was initially taken into custody in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic for allegedly making derogatory comments against then-Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. Following his arrest, he claimed that he was subjected to mistreatment while in police custody.
After the TDP-led government assumed office in 2024, investigations were reopened, and cases were filed against certain officials, including those involved during the previous administration, highlighting the political and legal scrutiny surrounding the matter.
