CGC Landran celebrates National Science Day
Chandigarh, 28 Feb 2026- Chandigarh Group of Colleges (CGC) Landran celebrated National Science Day on campus through a special event dedicated to championing innovation and creativity. Organized by the Department of Applied Sciences in collaboration with the Department of Student Welfare, CGC Landran, the celebrations commemorated the discovery of the Raman Effect by Nobel Laureate Sir C.V. Raman and sought to inspire scientific curiosity and innovative thinking among CGC’s students. The event was graced by the presence of distinguished dignitaries including Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chairman, CGC Landran; Parampal Singh Dhillon, Vice Chairman, CGC Landran; Dr. Sarwan Singh, Joint Director, NIELIT Chandigarh; Mr. Sukhwinder Sehgal, Co-Founder, Sifars; Mr. Uttam Chand Banerjee, Former Director, NIPER; and Dr. Rajdeep Singh, Campus Director, CGC Landran. The National Science Day event featured competitions, discussions and workshops across diverse categories including physics, analytics, bioprocessing, cybersecurity, nanotechnology, and instrumentation. A highlight of the event was the Research for Pioneers exhibition, which showcased more than 100 student-led projects in areas such as automation, clean energy, waste management and sustainable agriculture. In his address on the occasion, Mr. Sandhu emphasized the importance of science and ethically grounded, human-centric technology, particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI). He highlighted that scientific temperament is the core of academics, especially in technical higher education institutions like CGC Landran, with research and innovation as the backbone of progress. He underlined the importance of critical thinking, wisdom and rigor in an age where AI has become an enabler in our lives, accelerating access to data and supporting research processes. He noted that the post-covid generation faced immense challenges, conducted more research, and emerged stronger, proving that adversity builds resilience. He further said that keeping this in view, we must similarly adapt to AI while ensuring that ethics and human values remain central. Education, he stressed, should not only provide jobs but also focus on shaping better human beings who aspire to learn and expand knowledge. Mr. Sandhu further urged students and teachers to brainstorm and explore how technology can be harnessed for the greater good. He encouraged students to focus on solving pressing social challenges using their research acumen and innovative thinking, thereby helping people and communities lead better lives. He also urged the academic fraternity at CGC Landran to build upon the institution’s legacy rooted in research, innovation and entrepreneurship and to aspire towards becoming leaders in ethical AI while contributing to the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047.The celebrations concluded with a cultural showcase and prize distribution ceremony, reinforcing CGC Landran’s commitment to advancing scientific literacy and nurturing innovation among its students.
