Chandigarh, March 28, 2026: Under the “Punjab Sikhya Kranti” initiative, the Punjab Government led by Bhagwant Singh Mann organised a statewide Mega Parent–Teacher Meeting (PTM) across government schools, engaging over 18 lakh parents in a single day.
Sharing details, Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains announced the rollout of a Students Absent Alert SMS system in all government schools. The system will notify parents whenever a child is absent, aiming to improve attendance and accountability.
He said the PTM focused on holistic student feedback, with schools holding detailed interactions, exhibitions of student work and awareness sessions, including adolescent health initiatives like HPV vaccination for girls.
Calling it a major step towards strengthening the education ecosystem, Bains said the initiative transformed routine PTMs into meaningful engagements between parents, teachers and students, fostering a more inclusive and responsive system.
The drive also supported enrolment for the new academic session and highlighted key programmes such as Mission Samarth and Hunar Sikhya, reinforcing the government’s focus on community-driven education reforms.
