Chandigarh, April 1, 2026:Following a protest by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), a party delegation led by Chandigarh unit president Vijay Pal Singh met the management of Chandigarh Power Distribution Limited (CPDL) at its Sector 34 office on March 24 to raise concerns related to electricity billing and tariff issues.
During the meeting, CPDL officials addressed all issues flagged by the delegation and clarified key aspects of the billing system. The company informed that it has transitioned from a bi-monthly billing system to a monthly billing cycle in compliance with directives issued by the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC).
On the issue of consumers receiving two bills, CPDL clarified that these corresponded to separate consumption periods—January and February—and there was no duplication or overlap in billing.
Responding to concerns over tariff hikes, the company reiterated that it does not determine electricity tariffs. Instead, tariff rates in the Union Territory are set by the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission.
Addressing complaints about delays in bill delivery, CPDL stated that it has strengthened its distribution system and introduced an additional digital mechanism, allowing consumers to access their bills via WhatsApp.
To further improve consumer outreach and grievance redressal, the company has proposed organising camps across various localities in Chandigarh. These camps aim to assist residents, resolve queries, and enhance transparency in billing practices.
