Punjab Cadre IAS Officer Gets Key Posting in Union Housing Ministry

Surabhi Malik, a 2012-batch IAS officer of the Punjab cadre, has been appointed as Director in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs under the Central Staffing Scheme. The appointment has been approved for a tenure of five years from the date she assumes charge or until further orders.
This appointment marks a significant milestone in Malik’s distinguished administrative career, characterized by professionalism, efficiency, and strong governance credentials.
She holds the distinction of being the first woman to serve as Deputy Commissioner of Ludhiana, Punjab’s largest district, where she earned recognition for her effective administrative leadership. Prior to this, she served as Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) and Additional Commissioner in the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation.
Her diverse administrative experience includes key positions such as Deputy Commissioner of Fatehgarh Sahib, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Rupnagar, and Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Nangal. She has also served as Chairperson of the Patiala Improvement Trust and Chief Administrator of the Patiala Development Authority.
Academically accomplished, Malik holds a Master’s degree in Economics from the London School of Economics, which she pursued under the prestigious Commonwealth Scholarship programme. Her academic background complements her analytical and policy-oriented approach to governance.
With her new role in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Malik is expected to contribute significantly to urban policy, planning, and development initiatives at the national level.
