Punjab Boosts Horticulture: Mohinder Bhagat orders large-scale fruit plant production

Chandigarh, April 7, 2026: Punjab Horticulture Minister Mohinder Bhagat today chaired a high-level meeting with officials of the Horticulture Department, directing them to boost the production of fruit plants on a large scale to accelerate the horticulture sector and enhance farmers’ income.
The Minister emphasized that fruit seedlings should be grown according to market demand and farmers’ convenience, ensuring that the sector remains both profitable and sustainable.
During the meeting, Secretary Arshdeep Singh Thind and Director Manish Kumar updated the Minister on the progress of various departmental projects. Discussions also covered new recruitments, promotions, and other key administrative matters.
Highlighting the importance of approved projects worth Rs. 1,300 crore supported by JICA, Bhagat noted that these initiatives are designed to promote climate-resilient and high-value horticultural crops across Punjab.
He further instructed that all ongoing projects under the department be completed within the stipulated timelines, urging officials to maintain direct coordination with local panchayats and farmers to provide guidance and support as per government directives. Officials assured the Minister of timely completion and strict adherence to project objectives.
