IAS Officer Awanish Kumar given additional charge as Census Director for Lakshadweep

New Delhi, April 21, 2026: The Central Government has approved the appointment of Awanish Kumar as Director of Census Operations and Director of Citizen Registration (DCO/DCR) for Lakshadweep on an additional charge basis.
A 2014-batch IAS officer of the AGMUT cadre, Kumar will hold the post at the Deputy Secretary level under the Central Staffing Scheme. The appointment will be effective from the date he assumes charge and will remain in force for a period of three years or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Officials have directed that Awanish Kumar take up his new assignment at the earliest and inform the Department as well as the Office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner, under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
