Chandigarh/New Delhi, April 23, 2026:
In a significant political development ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections, BJP National President Nitin Nabin has categorically announced that the party will contest the polls independently, ruling out any possibility of an alliance with the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) or any other party.
Nabin made these remarks during an exclusive interview with Rahul Joshi, Group Editor of News18 Network. Notably, this was his first interview after assuming charge as BJP National President.
During the interaction, Nabin firmly dismissed speculation of a renewed alliance with SAD, making it clear that the BJP is preparing to go solo in Punjab. His statement is being seen as a decisive shift in the party’s electoral strategy in the state.
“We will contest the 2027 Punjab elections on our own,” Nabin said, underlining the party’s intent to strengthen its independent political base in Punjab.
The announcement comes amid ongoing political realignments in the state and signals BJP’s confidence in expanding its footprint without relying on traditional allies.
