Chandigarh, April 28, 2026: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Tuesday inaugurated the first phase of Census 2027 — House Listing and Enumeration of Houses from his native village Satoz in Sangrur district, marking a major push towards digitisation of the census process.
Leading by example, the Chief Minister completed his self-enumeration through the official online portal, encouraging citizens across the state to adopt the digital platform and actively participate in the nationwide exercise.
Senior officials, including Manjit Singh Brar, Administrative Secretary, Local Government Department, and Navjot Khosa, Director Census Operations, Punjab and UT Chandigarh, were present during the launch, along with Rahul Chaba.
Addressing the public, the Chief Minister urged residents to take part in the census process, stating that accurate and timely data is crucial for effective governance, policy formulation, and equitable distribution of resources.
He appealed to citizens to utilise the self-enumeration facility between April 30 and May 14, 2026, highlighting its role in building a reliable national database.
He emphasised that digital self-enumeration enhances transparency, improves efficiency, and reduces dependency on manual processes, ensuring faster and more accurate data collection.
Officials noted that the Chief Minister’s participation would boost public confidence and encourage wider involvement across both urban and rural areas.
The second stage of the first phase will involve a door-to-door survey from May 15 to June 13, 2026, during which enumerators will collect detailed information on housing conditions, amenities, and assets through a structured questionnaire, ensuring comprehensive coverage of every household.
