Chandigarh, May 2, 2026: Punjab Cabinet Minister for Local Government, Industries & Commerce, Investment Promotion and Power, Sanjeev Arora, on Saturday completed his self-enumeration under the Digital Census 2027 by registering his housing details from his residence in Gurdev Nagar, setting an example for citizens.
Highlighting the shift to a fully digital census for the first time, Minister Arora urged residents to actively participate in the exercise and submit their housing details through the official self-enumeration portal se.census.gov.in.
He said the Houselisting and Housing Census phase-1 began in Punjab on April 30 and will continue till May 14, 2026, during which citizens can voluntarily submit details of their households online.
Arora said the process is simple, secure, and can be completed from home without waiting for enumerators. He added that accurate data collection is crucial for effective planning and implementation of welfare schemes and development policies.
Under this phase, residents are required to provide 33 key details related to housing conditions, amenities, and household information. After successful submission, a Self Enumeration ID (SE-ID) is generated, which must be shared with enumerators during the field verification stage beginning May 15, 2026.
The Minister clarified that all information will remain strictly confidential and will be used only for policy formulation and government planning purposes.
For those unable to complete the process online, enumerators will visit households during the next phase to collect the required information.
Arora further stated that since the last census was conducted in 2011, the Digital Census 2027 marks a major technological shift in data collection, and public participation will play a key role in ensuring its success.
Senior census and municipal officials were also present on the occasion.
