Tarn Taran: Farmers make Usman Toll Plaza free for 3 hours over delay in flood compensation

Tarn Taran (Punjab), May 4, 2026: Protesting delay in compensation for flood damage, members of the Flood Victim Farmers' Struggle Committee, Punjab, made the Usman Toll Plaza toll-free for three hours on Monday following a call by the Azad Kisan Morcha.
Farmer leaders, including state president Jasbir Singh Ahluwalia and leader Jajbir Singh Sabra, said farmers suffered massive losses during recent floods, with crops destroyed and even homes and land severely affected. They alleged that despite assurances from the government, compensation for both crop loss and uncultivated land is yet to be disbursed.
The leaders said earlier protests were called off after a meeting with the Chief Secretary, who had assured that compensation would be released soon. However, with no progress even after several months, farmers have resumed agitation.
The toll plaza near the Tarn Taran highway was kept free as a symbolic protest to press the government to fulfil its promises. Farmers warned that if their demands are not met soon, the agitation will be intensified and expanded across Punjab.
