Six runaway children reunited by alert railway staff on Humsafar Express
Ferozepur Division, May 5, 2026: Six children traveling alone on Train No. 22317, Jammu Tawi Humsafar Express, were safely reunited with their families due to the alertness and prompt action of the ticket checking staff.
On May 5, during routine ticket checking between Ludhiana and Jammu Tawi, staff members Rajinder Singh, Sukhwinder Singh, Amarjeet Singh Sandhu, Rajesh Kumar Rajak, and Rajveer Singh were on duty in the sleeper coaches. While inspecting coach S-2, Rajveer Singh noticed six children traveling without any guardian.
Displaying presence of mind, he questioned the children, who revealed that they had run away from home. Acting swiftly, the staff contacted the parents using a mobile number provided by one of the children and informed them about the situation.
Considering the seriousness of the matter, Train Conductor Rajinder Singh immediately alerted the Commercial Control Room at Jammu. Upon arrival at Jammu Tawi station, the children were safely handed over to the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and child care authorities. Further coordination ensured that the parents were informed and reached the station to take custody of their children.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Basant Kumar appreciated the ticket checking staff for their prompt and responsible action, stating that their dedication not only safeguarded the children but also brought pride to the Railways. He termed their conduct an exemplary model for all railway personnel.
