FIR registered in Fazilka over illegal storage of fertilizers and pesticides

Fazilka (Punjab), May 16, 2026: The Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department in Punjab has registered an FIR against a man accused of illegally purchasing and storing fertilizers and pesticides in Abohar following a raid conducted at a shop in the New Grain Market.
The action was carried out under the guidance of Punjab Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian, Deputy Commissioner of Fazilka Amarpreet Kaur Sandhu, and Director of the Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department Dr. Gurjit Singh Brar.
According to officials, a team led by Assistant Plant Protection Officer Dr. Shishpal Godara conducted the raid on May 14 along with Insecticide Inspector Vikrant, Fertilizer Inspector Ajay Pal, and other department officials. The inspection was carried out at Shop No. 77 in New Grain Market, Abohar.
During the operation, authorities seized large quantities of fertilizers and pesticides allegedly stored without proper authorization. The confiscated material included 400 one-litre units of IPL-5G fertilizer, 144 bags of Grifin weighing 4 kg each, and 199 packets containing Cartap Hydrochloride 4% GR pesticide products.
Officials stated that samples of the seized products were collected for examination before the stock was taken into custody.
Following the raid, FIR No. 0148 dated May 15, 2026, was registered against Vijay Kamboj, a resident of Dhani Karnail in Abohar tehsil. The case has been filed under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, along with Section 29 of the Insecticides Act, 1968.
Chief Agriculture Officer Dr. Harbans Singh Sidhu said the department will continue strict monitoring against the illegal trade of agricultural products and warned that anyone involved in fraudulent practices affecting farmers would face strong legal action.
He added that the department is committed to protecting farmers from counterfeit or unauthorized fertilizers and pesticides that could harm crops and agricultural productivity.
