Chandigarh, May 18, 2026: Senior BJP leader Dr. Jagmohan Singh Raju has urged Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to announced financial incentives for young Sikh couples on the line of Andhra Pradesh model for having 4 children. He said that like Andhra government has announced Rs. 30,000 for third and Rs. 40,000 for fourth child, Punjab should also do the same.
In his letter, he urged Punjab cM to consider financial incentives to young Sikh couples on the Andhra Pradesh model — ₹30,000 for a third child and ₹40,000 for a fourth child — so that they can have larger families.
Sikhs are a constitutionally recognised minority in India, yet NFHS data shows that the Sikh fertility rate is among the lowest in the country. The Sikh share in Punjab’s population has also declined from 62.95% in 1991 to 57.69% in 2011, and indications suggest this trend continues. My suggestion for financial incentives will help arrest this trend .
