Chandigarh, May 18, 2026: Haryana Transport Minister Anil Vij on Sunday said the state government is preparing major initiatives to promote electric vehicles (EVs), including a proposal for 100 per cent tax exemption on EV purchases and the procurement of 500 electric buses.
Speaking to media persons ahead of the Cabinet meeting in Chandigarh, Vij said he has forwarded a proposal seeking complete tax exemption on electric vehicles in Haryana on the lines of Delhi and Chandigarh to encourage more people to switch to cleaner transportation options.
“If tax relief is provided on EVs, people’s interest in electric vehicles will increase significantly,” Vij said.
The minister stated that the Haryana government is also planning to purchase 500 electric buses as part of a larger push towards sustainable public transport and the EV transition in the state.
According to Vij, a formal file regarding tax exemption for electric vehicle purchases has already been moved forward. The proposal aims to make EV ownership more affordable and accelerate the adoption of eco-friendly vehicles across Haryana.
When asked whether the proposal would be placed before the Cabinet soon, Vij clarified that the authority to bring proposals before the Cabinet rests solely with Nayab Singh Saini.
He added that inter-departmental virtual meetings are being held regularly and several administrative matters are also being resolved through telephonic coordination.
The proposed measures are being seen as part of Haryana’s broader efforts to strengthen green mobility infrastructure and support the growing electric vehicle ecosystem in the state.
