Chemist shops in Chandigarh to remain closed on May 20

Chandigarh, May 19, 2026: Chemist shops and pharmacies across Chandigarh are set to remain closed on Wednesday, May 20, as part of an all-India strike called against the online sale of medicines.
According to a public notice issued by the Chandigarh Chemists Association, all chemist shops and pharmacies will observe the shutdown in protest against e-pharmacy operations and online medicine distribution platforms.
The association stated that the strike has been organised as part of a nationwide agitation by pharmacy and chemist groups demanding stricter regulation of online medicine sales.
The notice informed customers that medical stores would remain shut throughout the day on May 20 and apologised for the inconvenience caused to the public.
The strike is expected to impact medicine availability in several areas, especially for walk-in customers relying on local pharmacies for daily prescriptions and emergency medicines.
