1998-batch IPS officer appointed ADG in Special Protection Group

New Delhi, June 3, 2026: Senior IPS officer Rajiv Ranjan Bhagat, a 1998-batch officer of the Gujarat cadre, has been appointed as Additional Director General (ADG) in the Special Protection Group (SPG), India's elite security force responsible for the protection of the Prime Minister.
Prior to his elevation, Bhagat was serving as Inspector General (IG) in the SPG. His appointment marks a significant step up in the leadership hierarchy of the organisation, which is tasked with providing proximate security to the Prime Minister and overseeing some of the country's most sensitive security operations.
A seasoned police officer with extensive administrative and security experience, Bhagat has held several important assignments during his career in the Gujarat cadre and at the Centre.
The SPG is regarded as one of India's most specialised security agencies and plays a critical role in safeguarding the country's highest political leadership.
