1995-batch IAS officer gets relief as Supreme Court stays Allahabad HC order

New Delhi, June 12, 2026: The Supreme Court has stayed an Allahabad High Court order that had made adverse observations against Uttar Pradesh Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Sanjay Prasad, 1995-batch IAS officer, and directed the Centre to examine his suitability for future assignments.
A bench comprising Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra and Justice Atul S. Chandurkar granted interim relief while hearing a petition filed by Prasad challenging the High Court's remarks and directions.
The controversy stems from a habeas corpus case involving a missing minor girl, during which the Allahabad High Court had expressed dissatisfaction with the police investigation and the charge sheet filed in the matter.
The High Court had also criticized the state administration's response regarding the implementation of its earlier guidelines on criminal investigations.
Prasad had informed the High Court that the Uttar Pradesh government was considering challenging those guidelines before the Supreme Court and requested that no further directions be issued until the matter was decided. The High Court viewed the response unfavourably and passed strong remarks against the senior bureaucrat.
The Supreme Court has now stayed those observations and related directions, providing temporary relief to the senior IAS officer while the matter remains under judicial consideration.
