Chandigarh, June 21, 2026: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Saturday announced a series of major initiatives aimed at promoting yoga across the state, including the introduction of yoga education in the school curriculum for Classes III to IX from the upcoming academic session.
The announcements were made during the state-level celebrations of the 12th International Yoga Day held in Panchkula, where the Chief Minister outlined an ambitious roadmap to make yoga an integral part of education, sports and public life in Haryana.
Under the new initiative, students from Classes III to IX will receive formal yoga education as part of their curriculum, with the objective of enhancing their physical, mental and emotional well-being from an early age.
To ensure effective implementation, the state government will provide specialized yoga training to Physical Training Instructors (PTIs), D.P.Ed. teachers, PGTs and designated PRTs, enabling schools across Haryana to conduct regular yoga sessions under trained supervision.
In another significant move, Saini announced that yoga-related questions will become a mandatory component of examinations conducted by the Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC) and the Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC). Necessary amendments to examination policies will be introduced to implement the decision.
The Chief Minister also revealed plans to establish a State-Level Institute of Naturopathy and Yoga in Morni. The institute will offer undergraduate programmes and serve as a centre for education, research and training in yoga and naturopathy.
Further strengthening the state's focus on wellness education, yoga will be incorporated into the five Centres of Excellence being established across universities in Haryana. The government will also rename Sports Departments in higher educational institutions as "Departments of Sports and Yoga" to give yoga greater prominence in academia.
Saini announced that Yogasana will be recognized as a sports discipline under the state's sports policy, with amendments to be made accordingly. He also said elements of Ayurveda would be integrated into the yoga curriculum to promote a holistic approach to health and wellness.
Additionally, the Chief Minister directed that appointments to vacant posts of AYUSH Yoga Coaches and Yoga Instructors be expedited.
In a separate announcement, Saini said collective singing of the Haryana state song during morning assemblies would be ensured in all government schools. He said the initiative would help instill discipline, cultural values, state pride and national consciousness among students.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister emphasized that yoga should not be viewed merely as a physical exercise but as a scientific and time-tested way of life capable of improving individual and societal well-being.
Among those present at the event were Haryana Health and AYUSH Minister Arti Singh Rao, former Haryana Assembly Speaker Gian Chand Gupta, Haryana Yog Aayog Chairman Jaideep Arya and several senior government officials.
