Takht Hazur Sahib Issue: Draft of new Act kept in abeyance after Maharashtra Minister meets Sikh BJP leaders in Delhi

New Delhi/Chandigarh, June 27, 2026: Newly drafted Bill to replace 70 year old Takht Sri Hazur Sahib act has been kept in abeyance after Maharashtra Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule met Sikh BJP leaders in Delhi.
Bawankule was deputed by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to sort out the issue. He met BJP leader RP Singh and BJP Punjab President Kewal Singh Dhillon also joined the meeting. It was suggested to the state government that opinion and advice of Sikh community should be taken first before taking any step to replace the old Act. It was agreed upon to constitute a committee to hold wider consultations on the issue and then only the state government will move forward on the issue.
