Una (Himachal Pradesh), June 27, 2026: At least 25 makeshift huts (jhuggis) of migrant labourers were destroyed in a major fire that broke out in the Lal Singi area of Una on Saturday, leaving several families homeless.
According to officials, the fire spread rapidly, reducing the temporary shelters to ashes within a short span. Household belongings, clothes, food supplies and other essential items kept inside the huts were completely destroyed.
Panic gripped the area as local residents rushed to help and alerted the Fire Department. Firefighters reached the spot and managed to bring the blaze under control after strenuous efforts, preventing it from spreading to nearby settlements.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. The district administration and concerned departments have begun assessing the damage and extending assistance to the affected families.
No casualties or injuries were reported in the incident. However, several migrant labourer families have been left without shelter and are now forced to live under the open sky after losing all their belongings.
