Patiala, June 28: In a proactive move to strengthen the city's preparedness ahead of the monsoon season, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal, accompanied by Municipal Commissioner Pooja Syal, carried out a comprehensive inspection of Patiala's roads, sewerage network and drainage infrastructure. Senior officials of the Municipal Corporation also joined the inspection.
The inspection was undertaken in line with the Punjab Government's directions to accelerate pre-monsoon preparedness across urban areas and ensure that civic infrastructure is fully equipped to handle the rainy season.
During the visit, Dr. Aggarwal inspected the sewerage system in the Indira Colony area and directed officials to intensify the cleaning of sewer lines and strengthen the drainage network to prevent flooding and sewage overflow. He stressed that desilting and cleaning of all drains, sewer lines and stormwater channels across the city must be completed on a priority basis before the onset of the monsoon.
The Deputy Commissioner made it clear that waterlogging and sewerage-related issues in any part of the city would not be tolerated. He warned that negligence in carrying out the assigned responsibilities would invite strict action against the concerned officials.
Dr. Aggarwal also reviewed the condition of roads from Tripuri to Jhill Road and instructed the concerned departments to undertake immediate repairs wherever required while ensuring proper drainage arrangements alongside the road network.
Emphasizing the need for continuous monitoring, he directed Municipal Corporation officials to regularly inspect cleanliness and drainage arrangements on major roads, in residential localities and commercial markets. He further instructed officials to keep a close watch on vulnerable waterlogging points and respond promptly to any emerging issues.
During the inspection, the Deputy Commissioner also interacted with local residents, listened to their civic concerns and assured them that their grievances would be addressed expeditiously. He reaffirmed the district administration's commitment to improving civic infrastructure and ensuring a cleaner, safer and more resilient Patiala ahead of the rainy season.
