Chandigarh, July 8, 2026: The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has charged Gurinderjit Singh Nagra, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Tanda Police Station in Punjab, in connection with an alleged USD 400,000 extortion case, according to reports.
The case reportedly involves allegations that a family based in the United States was threatened as part of an extortion scheme, while their relatives in India were allegedly implicated in a fabricated murder case.
The development comes as part of a broader US crackdown on transnational organised crime. According to the reports, the allegations against the Punjab Police officer have surfaced alongside ongoing investigations into criminal networks operating across multiple countries.
The latest development also coincides with action by US authorities against alleged organised crime figures linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi Organised Crime Group. On Wednesday, the FBI announced a reward of up to USD 50,000 for information leading to the arrest of Satinderjeet Singh alias Goldy Brar.
Separately, the US Department of Justice has charged Lawrence Bishnoi, Goldy Brar, and several other alleged gang members under Operation Hard Ball, a coordinated crackdown targeting organised crime groups accused of involvement in extortion, violent crimes, and international narcotics trafficking.
No official statement has yet been issued by the Punjab Police regarding the charges against SHO Gurinderjit Singh Nagra. The allegations remain part of an ongoing investigation by US authorities.
