PSPCL orders 2-day disposal of lawyers’ tariff conversion applications

Patiala (Punjab), July 18, 2026: The Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has directed all its Sub-Division Offices to process and dispose of applications seeking conversion of electricity tariffs for eligible lawyers' chambers from commercial to Domestic Supply (DS) tariff within two days of receiving them.
The instructions were issued by PSPCL Chairman-cum-Managing Director Dr. Basant Garg after complaints were received regarding delays and lax implementation of the Punjab Government's notification extending the DS tariff benefit to advocates' chambers.
The notification, issued under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, allows chambers of advocates registered with the Punjab and Haryana Bar Council, located within court complexes and used exclusively for legal practice, to avail the Domestic Supply tariff instead of the commercial tariff.
Dr. Garg said officers have been instructed to ensure strict compliance with the notification and complete the processing of eligible applications within the stipulated two-day period.
The benefit, however, will not be available to chambers used for commercial activities such as canteens, photocopy centres or any other business operations.
Appealing to eligible advocates to apply at the earliest, Dr. Garg said the initiative aims to provide relief to lawyers by reducing their electricity costs and ensuring timely implementation of the Punjab Government's decision.
