Breaking:Punjab Govt gives clean chit to IPS officer S.P.S. Parmar, drops all charges

Chandigarh, July 24, 2026: The Punjab Government has dropped all departmental charges against senior IPS officer Surinder Pal Singh (S.P.S.) Parmar, giving him a clean chit in the driving licence case in which he had earlier been suspended.
According to an order issued by the Home Department on Friday, the disciplinary proceedings initiated against the 1997-batch IPS officer have been closed, and the period of his suspension will be treated as duty.
Parmar, who currently serves as Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order), was suspended in May 2025 while serving as the Chief Director of the Punjab Vigilance Bureau over allegations of dereliction of duty in connection with a driving licence-related case. He was reinstated in August 2025.
The departmental inquiry, conducted by Special DGP Arpit Shukla under the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969, concluded that the evidence on record did not substantiate the allegations against Parmar.
Based on the inquiry report, the Governor of Punjab approved the closure of the proceedings, following which the state government formally withdrew all charges.
The inquiry also noted that the Vigilance Bureau had acted under Section 17-A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and found no evidence to establish the allegations against the officer.
