District Library emerges as preferred study hub for competitive exam aspirants
Ferozepur, July 25, 2026: The Swami Vivekananda District Library, located in the Municipal Park, has transformed into a vibrant knowledge center and a preferred destination for young aspirants preparing for competitive examinations. From banking and government recruitment tests to the UPSC Civil Services Examination, the library is witnessing a steady stream of students making full use of its modern facilities.
Open daily from 7 am to 6 pm, the library offers a peaceful and disciplined environment where aspirants study in complete silence. During a visit to the District Library by BabushahiDotCom Bureau, the reading hall presented a picture of total concentration, with students engrossed in books, laptops and mobile-based study material while using earphones to avoid disturbing fellow readers.
Several aspirants expressed satisfaction with the facilities available at the library. A banking examination candidate said the library provides an ideal atmosphere for focused study, something that is often difficult to achieve at home. He appreciated the availability of air-conditioning, Wi-Fi connectivity, proper lighting and comfortable furniture, which have significantly improved the learning experience.
The library's transformation marks a remarkable turnaround from its earlier condition. Originally established over four decades ago, in the Red Cross Building, with a collection of more than 42,500 books, the district library once had over 4,100 registered members. However, after it was shifted to the Municipal Park in 2014, inadequate infrastructure, and lack of furniture and books lying unattended in sacks led to a sharp decline in visitors. Now the renovation has provided the library with modern furniture, improved reading spaces, digital facilities and a welcoming environment for readers.
Dr Jagdeep Singh Sandhu, District Language Officer (DLO) who spearheaded the restoration initiative, said the objective was to rekindle the reading habit and create a conducive environment where people, particularly the youth, could pursue knowledge and prepare for their future careers. Now the campus has begun attracting both young readers and senior citizens back to the library. With such dedication and disciplined preparation, it is hoped that many of these aspirants will soon realize their dream of succeeding in competitive examinations, he added.
The revival of the Swami Vivekananda District Library also complements the Punjab Government's broader focus - a vision of Bhagwant Singh Maan, Chief Minister, on promoting a reading culture through its Rural Library Scheme.
With its modern infrastructure, peaceful ambience and growing number of visitors, the Swami Vivekananda District Library is once again emerging as a center of learning and inspiration, helping shape the aspirations of the district's youth.
