Indian Diamond merchant abducted in Mali, released after Rs. 44 crore ransom paid

Chandigarh/Surat, July 27, 2026: An Indian Diamond merchant was abducted in Mali was released three months later after payment of Rs. 44 crore in ransom.
According to a report of The Tribune, Diamond merchant hailed from Dhar village in Amreli district of Gujarat. He was involved in diamond business since 1980. Later his family shifted to USA. According to report, he had purchased a gold mine in Mali. He was abducted in April and released three months later when family paid ransom amount. It is learnt that abductors had demanded Rs. 100 initially but family directly negotiated with them and paid Rs. 44 crore for his release.
