Ferozepur witnesses growing wave of indefinite strike by Aam Aadmi Clinics staff
Ferozepur, July 27, 2026: Healthcare services at Aam Aadmi Clinics in Ferozepur were disrupted on Monday as doctors and staff joined an indefinite statewide strike, demanding job security, regular service benefits and better service conditions. The employees announced that OPD services would remain suspended until the Punjab Government accepts their demands.
The agitation comes just days after the government inaugurated three new Aam Aadmi Clinics in Ferozepur district as part of its expansion of the flagship healthcare programme, while the total number of such clinics across Punjab has reached 1,090 with new 100 clinics rolled out in July. Protesting employees questioned the expansion of the project without addressing the concerns of existing staff who have been serving in the clinics for nearly four years.
The employees demanded that they be brought under the Directorate of Health Services, granted regular service benefits, leave facilities and assured job security. They alleged that repeated representations to the government had failed to yield any positive response, forcing them to resort to an indefinite strike.
The clinic staff's agitation has added to a series of protests by different sections of employees across Punjab, including PSPCL employees, MGNREGA workers, Anganwadi workers, sanitation workers, TET-qualified teacher aspirants and advocates opposing the Legal Aid Defence Counsel (LADC) policy. The simultaneous agitations have raised concerns over the delivery of essential public services and have emerged as a significant governance challenge for the Aam Aadmi Party government.
Political observers believe the growing unrest among government employees, contractual workers and pensioners could have wider political implications ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections, as employee organisations continue to press for long-pending demands while warning of intensified protests if the government fails to respond.
