Youth Congress seeks independent inquiry into movement of vehicle near Jantar Mantar; alleges attempt to disrupt student protest

Jalandhar (Punjab), August 2, 2026: The Jalandhar District Youth Congress on Saturday held a protest at Shri Ram Chowk, where party activists burnt effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the alleged movement of a stone-laden dumper truck near Jantar Mantar in New Delhi ahead of a student protest.
The demonstration was led by Jalandhar Urban Youth Congress president Angad Dutta. Youth Congress workers, students and party supporters participated in the protest and raised slogans against the Central government.
Addressing the protesters, Dutta alleged that the movement of the truck raised serious questions and demanded an independent and transparent judicial inquiry into the matter.
According to the Youth Congress, the dumper truck, bearing registration number HR-63-E-6865, was involved in an accident near the Firoz Shah Road–Kasturba Gandhi Marg crossing in Delhi on July 16. The organisation claimed that an FIR was registered and the vehicle was taken into police custody at Parliament Street Police Station.
The Youth Congress further alleged that the truck was later seen near Jantar Mantar and Sansad Marg in the early hours of July 20, ahead of a student protest. It claimed that the vehicle was loaded with stones and construction material.
The organisation also alleged that the truck was subsequently moved outside the national headquarters of the Indian Youth Congress on Raisina Road, where it remained parked for several days.
Dutta questioned how an impounded vehicle could have been moved through a high-security area and alleged that there were contradictions in the explanations provided by authorities regarding the vehicle.
“Whenever young people and students raise questions about unemployment, paper leaks and democratic rights, attempts are made to suppress their voices,” Dutta alleged. He demanded a judicial inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the movement and placement of the vehicle.
Punjab Youth Congress general secretary Deepak Khosla also addressed the gathering and alleged that the presence of the stone-laden vehicle near a peaceful protest raised concerns about a possible attempt to create unrest and discredit student movements.
He said the Youth Congress would intensify its protests across Punjab if an independent inquiry was not initiated.
Several Congress leaders and Youth Congress office-bearers participated in the demonstration, including Manu Suri, Dhaminder Singh Binda, Bhupinder Singh Binda, Daman Kalyan and Sharu Kalyan.
Youth Congress office-bearers Shubham Arora, Navjot Gaba, Palvir Tutt, Manav Kalyan, Sumit Jain, Satyam Jairath and Shivam Pathak were also present. Assembly and block-level leaders, including Karan Kapoor, Rahul Gambhir, Ranvir Arora and Vasu Bhutani, joined the protest.
