Breaking: Firing at Former Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh’s Amritsar residence

Amritsar (Punjab), August 14, 2026: A firing incident has reportedly taken place at the residence of former Sri Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh in Amritsar, triggering concern in the area.
According to the information available, unidentified youths allegedly opened fire at his residence on the night of August 12. The incident came to light after a bullet mark was found on a car parked outside the house. A spent cartridge was also reportedly recovered from the spot.
The firing has caused apprehension among family members. CCTV cameras installed at the residence and in the surrounding area are being examined as part of the investigation. While the persons allegedly involved in the firing could not be clearly identified from the footage, the sound of gunshots was reportedly captured on CCTV.
Following information about the incident, police officials reached the spot and initiated an investigation. Police are examining CCTV footage from the residence and neighbouring areas to establish the sequence of events and identify those responsible.
The recovered cartridge and other evidence collected from the scene are also being examined as part of the investigation.
Giani Raghbir Singh served as Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib before being relieved of the responsibility in 2025.
