Breaking: AAP leader shot dead in Punjab

Ferozepur (Punjab), August 30, 2026: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) municipal councillor Gurpreet Singh Gopi was shot dead by armed assailants in Mamdot town of Punjab’s Ferozepur district on Saturday, August 29.
According to preliminary information, Gurpreet Singh was travelling on a motorcycle with his colleague Harpreet when a car allegedly chased them and the occupants opened fire.
Friends of Gurpreet Singh were following the motorcycle in another car. The assailants also reportedly opened fire at their vehicle.
Gurpreet Singh sustained critical injuries in the firing and died at the spot. Ferozepur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bhupinder Singh Sidhu reached the scene after receiving information about the incident.
According to the SSP, the murder appears to have stemmed from a long-standing dispute and rivalry between the two sides. Police said the suspected attackers have been identified. Multiple teams have been formed and raids are being conducted at various locations to apprehend the accused.
