First CONCOR Export Container Rake marks major freight boost for Ferozepur Rail Division
Ferozepur, August 31, 2026: In a significant boost to containerised rail freight, the Business Development Unit (BDU) of Firozpur Division has facilitated the first-ever successful loading of a CONCOR export container rake from Container Depot Dhandari Kalan to Container Depot Dadri on August 29, 2026.
The initiative is expected to generate two additional outward container rakes every month for Firozpur Division, contributing to increased freight traffic and revenue.
The new rail service is expected to reduce by half the transit time for transporting export containers from Dhandari Kalan to Jawaharlal Nehru Port, making rail transportation faster, more convenient and attractive for exporters and traders. The improved connectivity is also expected to encourage a shift of freight traffic from road to rail.
Under the new arrangement, export containers booked from Dhandari Kalan and other container depots will be transported to Inland Container Depot Dadri. From Dadri, the containers will be loaded onto double-stack container rakes for onward transportation to Jawaharlal Nehru Port. The use of double-stack rakes will enable the movement of a higher number of containers, measured in TEU capacity, in a single rake and significantly enhance rail freight capacity.
The facility will particularly benefit export cargo destined for international markets, including Africa, the USA, Canada and Europe.
CONCOR has scheduled a weekly service from Dhandari Kalan to Dadri every Saturday, ensuring faster, smoother and more efficient movement of export cargo towards major gateways, including Jawaharlal Nehru Port, Mundra Container Terminal and Pipavav Port.
The initiatives being undertaken by the Business Development Unit of Firozpur Division are playing an important role in connecting new business customers with rail transportation, facilitating the modal shift of freight from road to rail and enhancing the overall freight revenue of the division.
