Haryana CM Saini: Opposition to join committee for Guru Ravidas Samrasta Abhiyan

Chandigarh, September 1, 2026: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Tuesday said members of the Opposition would be included in the committee constituted for the ‘Sant Shiromani Guru Ravidas Samrasta Sankalp Abhiyan’, stressing that the teachings of saints and Gurus transcend political and social boundaries.
The Chief Minister made the statement during a discussion in the Vidhan Sabha on the government’s resolution concerning the Sant Shiromani Guru Ravidas Samrasta Sankalp Abhiyan, in response to MLA B.B. Batra’s demand for Opposition representation on the committee.
Saini said saints belong to everyone and their teachings are meant for the entire society and humanity. He emphasised that the campaign should be carried forward by rising above political considerations.
The Chief Minister also expressed regret over the alleged absence of Opposition members from programmes organised to commemorate the martyrdom of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji.
He said committees had earlier been constituted for organising the commemorative programmes and Opposition members had also been included. According to Saini, Deputy Commissioners across the state had invited Opposition MLAs to the events, but their participation was not seen.
“I am placing this matter before the House with a heavy heart,” Saini said, while stressing the importance of collectively honouring the sacrifices of the Gurus.
Recalling the words of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee that governments may come and go but the nation must endure, Saini said the teachings of the Gurus similarly emphasised rising above narrow considerations and working for the larger good.
He said it was the collective responsibility of the present generation to ensure that future generations remain aware of the sacrifices and hardships endured by saints and Gurus for the welfare of humanity.
Referring to the 650th Prakash Parv of Sant Shiromani Guru Ravidas Ji Maharaj, the Chief Minister said the government resolution before the House was dedicated to the occasion. He said the campaign should ensure that the message and teachings of Guru Ravidas reach every section of society.
Saini said the teachings of the Gurus convey that no person is superior or inferior by birth and that an individual’s stature is determined by their deeds.
He appealed to all members of the House to work together to take the resolution forward and urged saints, mahants, religious preachers, dera heads, temple committees and social and cultural organisations across Haryana to participate actively in programmes being organised under the Sri Guru Ravidas Maharaj Samrasta Sankalp Abhiyan.
