BSF-Police joint operation detects drone activity, nearly 10 Kg heroin recovered
Ferozepur, October 19, 2026: A joint operation by the BSF and Punjab Police led to the recovery of nearly 10 kg of heroin allegedly dropped by a drone in the Saide Ke area of Ferozepur district, once again highlighting attempts to smuggle narcotics across the India-Pakistan border through unmanned aerial vehicles.
According to information available, BSF personnel of the 99th Battalion detected suspicious drone movement in the Kasoke village area late Sunday night. Following the detection, the BSF, along with personnel of Ferozepur Sadar Police, launched a search operation in the suspected drop zone.
During the search, the security personnel recovered 10 packets of suspected heroin weighing nearly 10 kg, besides a tube and a Pakistani-made bag (gatta), believed to be part of the consignment.
The recovery comes amid continued efforts by security agencies to check the use of drones for cross-border smuggling of drugs and other contraband. The border districts of Punjab have witnessed repeated attempts by smugglers to use drones to deliver narcotics to their contacts on the Indian side.
The recovered contraband has been taken into custody and further investigation is underway to establish the exact quantity and purity of the heroin and to identify the persons linked to the attempted delivery.
Security agencies are also carrying out further searches in the area to rule out the possibility of additional packets having been dropped by the drone.
